The Central Procurement Board of Namibia (CPBN) has taken quite a significant step towards greater openness in public procurement after introducing the livestreaming of public bid opening proceedings.
The move has been hailed by industry insiders as a move that could help strengthen public confidence in government tender processes.

The historic initiative, launched last week, marked the first live broadcast of bid openings for the Windhoek District Hospital bulk infrastructure project on 8 July.
This was followed by the opening of bids for the construction of the Municipality of Mariental’s new head office on 10 July.
The proceedings were streamed live on CPBN’s Facebook page, allowing bidders, the media and the public to witness the process in real time. The CPBN board is confident that the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to transparency, accountability and open governance by making procurement proceedings more accessible to all stakeholders.
