OKONGO – As unofficial campaigns and political horse-trading go into overdrive, Swapo secretary general Sophia Shaningwa has once again come out swinging, dismissing purported claims of a deepening rift between her and party leader Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
Shaningwa made it clear that she harbours no intention of taking over party reins from Nandi-Ndaitwah at next year’s Swapo congress.

“I am mature. President Netumbo is my senior, and she deserves to lead us. I have to wait for my seniors. I campaigned for the president to win. If I had wanted to become president, I could have contested in 2022,” she said. She was speaking on Friday at the Swapo Party Women’s Council seminar at Okongo.
The seminar was held under the theme ‘Assessing the Economic Activities of Namibian Women’.
