SANGWALI – Vice President Lucia Witbooi has called on Namibians to reject tribalism, regionalism and racism, saying the country’s cultural diversity should serve as a foundation for unity, peace and national development.
Witbooi made the remarks while officiating at the Mayeyi Traditional Authority’s Batshara Annual Cultural Festival in Sangwali over the weekend, where thousands gathered to celebrate Mayeyi heritage under the theme ‘Our rivers, our life, our heritage’.

The colourful festival came alive with vibrant traditional dance performances, songs and cultural displays by local groups, while delegations from neighbouring countries, including the Wayeyi community from Botswana, joined in the celebrations. The event also attracted senior government officials, traditional leaders from across Namibia and the SADC region, as well as visitors from different parts of the country.
Speaking during the official opening, Witbooi said traditional leaders have a critical role to play in promoting reconciliation, nation-building and peaceful coexistence.
