Drivers of Profitability

The group says its financial performance was driven by disciplined cost containment and strong expansion in its lending portfolio.

Net interest income increased by 6% to N$1.11 billion.

Meanwhile operating expenses were N$1.04 billion, with growth running below the average inflation rate of 4.4% to yield operational efficiency gains.

Credit impairment charges remained flat year on year despite substantial expansion in gross lending, improving the credit loss ratio to 0.4%.

Revenue Breakdown

Total income reached N$1.92 billion for the first half of 2026.

Net interest income contributed the largest chunk of N$1.11 billion. This was driven by a 17.4% increase in gross customer loans and advances bringing the total book value to N$29 billion.

Non-interest revenue contributed N$809 million.

This is a 2% growth supported largely by higher account fees and a 23.6% boom in foreign currency trading, especially with the growing mining and the oil and gas industries.

“Fee income benefited from improved client activity across key fee lines, partly offset by regulatory changes and lower electronic fees in line with our financial inclusion strategy,” reads the bank’s statement.

Client Base, Market Presence, & Major Transactions

SBN Holdings grew its customer loan book at four times the rate of private sector credit extension (PSCE) in Namibia.

This included a N$2 billion facility extended to the Ministry of Finance to support the Eurobond redemption programme. Deposits also recorded a 51% increase in current accounts and a 25% rise in call savings balances.

Currently the bank operates 46 branches across Namibia with a 111-year operating history in the country.

Shareholder Returns

The board declared an interim dividend of 67 cents per share which is a 4.7% increase year on year.

SBN Holdings maintains a cautiously optimistic outlook for the remainder of 2026, anticipating macroeconomic recovery driven by the mining, construction, and energy sectors, alongside household financial relief from lower benchmark interest rates.

“The outlook for 2026 remains cautiously optimistic, albeit tempered by persistent external pressures. The operating environment is expected to remain supportive but constrained,” reads the bank’s statement.
