THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting continental efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda, while strengthening preparedness and response measures across the Southern African region.

The commitment was highlighted during a High-Level Virtual Meeting of African Heads of State, Governments and Partners on the Ebola (Bundibugyo Virus Disease) outbreak, convened by the African Union to mobilise political leadership, resources and coordinated action to address the health emergency.
The meeting brought together African leaders, regional economic communities, international cooperating partners, global health institutions and strategic partners to discuss measures aimed at containing the outbreak and preventing its further spread across the continent.
