THE Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement has criticised the Namibian government’s decision to nominate a senior Namibian judge to serve on a Tanzanian Presidential Commission of Inquiry into violence that followed the country’s October 2025 general election, in which the commission reported approximately 518 deaths, more than 2,390 injuries and property damage estimated at over TZS125 billion.
AR is accusing authorities of compromising judicial independence and enabling what it describes as a political whitewash.
The criticism follows the nomination of Judge President and Deputy Chief Justice Petrus Damaseb to serve on the commission after a request from Tanzanian authorities for a serving or retired Namibian High Court judge.
