Local entrepreneur aims to spice up market with homemade chilli

A visit to her uncle’s house in Rundu in 2020 changed Helena Nambalu’s life. It was there that she tasted homemade chilli sauce for the first time, an experience that inspired her to start her own business.

Curious to see if she could make the same sauce, she bought fresh ingredients and prepared it at home for her family. Friends and neighbours who tasted it encouraged her to make more, and she decided to turn the recipe into a business.

Today, she owns OlabMan Homemade Chilli Sauce, a small business that produces handmade chilli sauce using ingredients bought from the Stop n Shop open market in Okuryangava.

“I only wanted to make the sauce for my household, but after a while I realised there were other people who would enjoy it too. That is how the business started,” she told New Era.
