Tangeni-Omua launches debut book

Geoscientist Monika Tangeni-Omua launched her debut book, ‘A Village Girl with a Mighty God: A Story of Faith, Seasons, and Becoming’, in Windhoek, sharing a message of hope and faith with the Namibian nation.

The event brought together family, friends, professionals, young people and other guests to celebrate the book and its themes of hope, faith and purpose.

The book is an intimate reflection on faith, resilience, purpose and becoming. It follows Tangeni-Omua’s journey from a village girl navigating life’s different seasons to a woman who discovered her worth and purpose through faith.

Her story links personal faith to a broader commitment to serving and inspiring others, showing how individual growth can influence the lives of others. It also encourages those facing uncertainty, waiting seasons and the challenges of discovering their purpose.

Delivering the keynote address, Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) commissioner Sam Shivute highlighted the importance of using opportunities and achievements to uplift others and build a legacy.

“A great story should not only inspire us; it should move us to action. Monika’s story reminds us that it is not about waiting to become a super millionaire before you start giving. When you are blessed with an opportunity, you have a responsibility to use it to open doors for others. The real measure of our success is not only what we achieve for ourselves, but the lives we are able to touch and the opportunities we create for those who come after us.”

Speaking about the inspiration behind the book, Tangeni-Omua reflected on the experiences that shaped her understanding of faith, resilience and purpose. She emphasised that becoming is a process that requires patience, courage and trust.

“Life has taught me that storms do not last; the sun will rise again. I have walked through seasons where I had to balance family, marriage, career and rejection, and there were moments when I had to learn that it is okay not to be okay.

My faith became my anchor, rooted in the prayers and seeds my grandmother had sown long before I understood their significance. Purpose does not arrive all at once; it unfolds through the seasons of our lives.

And sometimes, having the information is not enough; we have to apply it to allow it to transform us,” she noted.

Violette Mureko also spoke about the book’s message, highlighting the importance of appreciating every moment and remaining open to lifelong learning.

“The more I read, the more I grew, and the more I grew, the more I began to see opportunities and move towards the life I had envisioned for myself. We should never become so full of information that we believe we have nothing left to learn. Keep educating yourself, keep reading, write your goals down and most importantly, take action,” she said.

Trudy Mudau reflected on the book’s message of identity, resilience and personal growth.

“Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, many of us stopped dreaming.

We became so consumed by responsibilities and by what society expected of us that we forgot to ask the most important question: ‘Who am I, and what is my purpose?’ But the dream is still within us. Sometimes, we simply need to reconnect with that inner child, rediscover our purpose and give ourselves permission to dream again,” she remarked.
