In response to the recent parliamentary debate sparked by members on maternity benefits and the dignity of women in the workplace, I write not to oppose the protection of mothers, but to ask a question that has gone unanswered for too long: If we are so committed to protecting women, why are we simultaneously punishing the very men who make fatherhood possible?
Namibia prides itself on being a nation of laws, equity, and progressive social policy. Yet beneath the surface of our Social Security Commission (SSC) lies a structural inequality so glaring and fundamentally unjust that it demands immediate parliamentary review and legislative amendment.
