Poaching suspect faces charge of perjury

Staff Reporter CHARGES against NDF, NamPol and Environment Ministry officials accused of assaulting a poaching suspect in Ruacana, Omusati Region, could be dropped after the complainant was found to have lied under oath. Omusati regional police commander Commissioner Ismael Basson said the suspect lied at Oshifo Police Station on 28 April when he alleged that he had been tortured by on-duty police officers, NDF members and Environment Ministry officials. During investigations, the suspect admitted that the alleged torture never occurred, Basson said.
