Kino Namibia, an initiative of the Namibia Film Commission (NFC), is hosting this year’s edition in the Zambezi region from 18 to 24 May 2026. The main goals of the programme are to equip young creatives with practical film production skills, encourage collaboration and storytelling, and create a platform for emerging filmmakers to produce authentic Namibian content. This year’s programme also focuses on youth empowerment and strengthening the local creative industry.
The Zambezi region was selected because of its vibrant youth population, rich cultural diversity and growing creative potential. According to Rebekka Malakia, media officer at the NFC, initiatives such as Kino Namibia aim to decentralise opportunities and ensure that young storytellers from all corners of Namibia have access to film training, mentorship and production experience. A total of 45 participants were selected for the training through an open call targeting aspiring filmmakers, creatives and media enthusiasts from the region.
