Chery has officially entered a new phase of its Southern African expansion after opening its Rosslyn manufacturing plant in Pretoria.
This move expected to boost vehicle production, create thousands of jobs and increase local participation in the automotive sector.
The plant’s opening today marks Chery’s transition from a vehicle importer to a manufacturer, with the company planning to use the facility as a base for production, exports, research and development across the region.

The development comes as governments across Southern Africa continue efforts to attract investment, expand industrial capacity and create employment opportunities in manufacturing.
The opening ceremony brought together government officials, industry leaders and Chery executives, including Deputy President Paul Mashatile, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, Tshwane Executive Mayor Nasiphi Moya, Chinese Ambassador Wu Peng and Chery Automobile chairman Yin Tongyue.
Yin said the investment demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to the region.
“At Chery, we live by one philosophy: ‘In Somewhere, For Somewhere, Be Somewhere.’ It means wherever we invest, we commit. We become part of the local economy, part of the community and part of the country’s future,” he said.
