Five years after the collapse of Air Namibia, Namibia’s aviation ambitions have gone into overdrive.

Fresh applications published in a recent Government Gazette reveal Namibia Air’s ambitious plans to operate an extensive network of domestic, regional and international passenger and cargo services. The recent aviation licence applications coincide with the government’s renewed drive to restore the national airline through the Botswana partnership. During recent interviews, transport minister Veikko Nekundi confirmed that the two countries are working towards launching the fully operational joint airline before the end of 2026. Rather than creating two competing national carriers, the initiative aims to consolidate resources and build a commercially sustainable airline capable of competing with established regional operators.
