Meatco gets Woolworths certification … push for retail expansion continues

Meatco, Namibia’s leading beef processing and marketing entity, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a Blue Rating in a recent Woolworths Food Safety Audit, reinforcing its position as the foremost supplier of high-quality Namibian beef to one of southern Africa’s premier retail chains.

The audit, conducted by independent consultants AVUTOM on 10 and 11 June 2026, assessed Meatco’s production processes, food safety systems, documentation, traceability controls and animal welfare practices.

The evaluation aligned with Woolworths’ stringent supplier requirements and adhered to South African red meat industry standards.

Meatco’s interim CEO Albertus Aochamub described the achievement as a critical step towards strengthening its partnership with Woolworths and expanding Namibian beef’s presence in premium retail markets across the region.

“This Blue Rating is more than just an audit result. It’s an endorsement of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in food safety, traceability and operational discipline. It underscores our dedication to supplying Woolworths with premium Namibian beef and supports our strategic goal to reach discerning consumers in regional markets,” Aochamub said of the significance of the rating.
