NANKOMBA – Tucked deep in the fertile floodplains of the Nakabolelwa conservancy near Chobe National Park, Nankomba village is one of Namibia’s most extraordinary landscapes, where people wake each morning alongside elephants, buffaloes, zebras, lions and countless other wild animals.
The breathtaking scenery, rich biodiversity and fertile soils make the area one of the country’s hidden treasures. Yet for the people who call it home, paradise comes with daily challenges.

Induna of Nankomba village, Nico Shakanda Kamwi, says generations of families have learned to coexist with wildlife, respecting nature while relying on the same land for survival.
“We are not asking for wildlife to be destroyed,” Kamwi said. “Wild animals are part of our heritage and our pride. What we want are practical coexistence measures that protect both wildlife and the livelihoods of our people.”
