Namibia’s four major farmers’ unions have launched a multi-million-dollar unified leadership campaign titled: “One Nation. One Herd. One Responsibility”, aimed at bolstering collective efforts to prevent the entry and spread of the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).
The campaign, launched yesterday, has already secured more than N$12 million in pledges and material support and has set N$50 million as its primary target.
FMD is a highly contagious animal ailment that poses a significant threat to the country’s livestock sector.
The disease affects a wide range of cloven-hoofed animals, including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and even certain game species, making it a concern for both commercial and communal farmers.
