Small Businesses Need More Than Social Media Posts

Across Namibia, small businesses are becoming more visible online.

From hair salons in Windhoek to food vendors at Oshakati, boutiques at Swakopmund, guest houses near Etosha, bakers at Walvis Bay, and consultants working from home, entrepreneurs are using Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp to promote their products and services.

This is encouraging. It shows creativity, ambition, and a strong desire to participate in the economy.

However, visibility is not the same as strategy.

Many small businesses are active online, but not always strategic online. In marketing terms, many focus only on the first stage of the customer journey: awareness. They post attractive pictures, gain likes, and create visibility, but they do not always move potential customers towards interest, desire, and action.
