Metropolitan launches campaign built around real Namibian stories

Metropolitan Namibia has launched a new campaign built around the real-life experiences of its clients, using their stories to highlight the role of financial planning and insurance in helping Namibians protect their families and achieve their financial goals.

The Story Of campaign was officially premiered in Windhoek on 17 August, bringing together stories from clients and their families from different parts of the country.

The campaign features real clients rather than actors or scripted testimonials. Metropolitan travelled across Namibia to document their experiences, with participants sharing their stories in their own languages and communities.

Denille Roostee, executive of marketing and communications at Momentum Metropolitan Namibia, said the campaign was intended to present clients’ experiences authentically rather than manufacture promotional stories.

“We wanted their truth. When you really listen to someone else’s story, you cannot help but reflect on your own – your children, your parents, the people you have lost, what you are building and the dreams you are still fighting for,” Roostee said.

The stories include a single mother who sacrificed to give her son an opportunity to graduate, a son who was able to give his mother a dignified funeral and a Namibian who reached retirement with the opportunity to enjoy the future he had worked towards.

According to Metropolitan, the campaign is intended to demonstrate the practical impact of financial protection beyond insurance policies, premiums and claims.

Evangelina Nailenge, Momentum Metropolitan executive of retail distribution, who delivered the chief executive officer’s address on his behalf, said the experiences featured in the campaign showed how financial security can affect families and communities.

“When a Namibian family becomes more financially secure, when a child is given an opportunity, when someone can retire with dignity, or when a family is protected during one of life’s most difficult moments, we are contributing in a small but meaningful way to a stronger Namibia,” she said.

Nailenge said the company’s purpose becomes meaningful through individual Namibians, families and their experiences.

Metropolitan said insurance also contributes to broader financial resilience by helping households and businesses manage risks, recover from unexpected events and plan for the future.

The industry also supports long-term savings and investment, contributing to economic development.

The campaign has also placed a strong emphasis on Namibia’s creative sector.

Deputy minister of education, innovation, youth, sport, arts and culture Dino Ballotti, who delivered the keynote address at the launch, highlighted the economic potential of the country’s cultural and creative industries.

The campaign was produced in Namibia and involved local filmmakers, directors, camera crews, editors and producers.

Ballotti challenged corporate Namibia to invest in local creative work, arguing that corporate marketing expenditure can contribute to developing skills, creating livelihoods and strengthening the country’s creative industry.

Roostee said the stories featured in the campaign represented only a fraction of the experiences of Metropolitan’s clients across the country.
