Heroes’ Acre calls struggle icons … Kaxumba kAndola, Shifidi, Nangolo, Niilenge, Nehale, Maxuilili

Six liberation heroes’ remains will be exhumed and reburied at the Heroes’ Acre on 24 August.

The event will officially open Namibia’s 2026 Heroes’ Day commemorations, bringing the remains of liberation icons from different parts of the country to the national shrine where Namibia’s heroes and heroines are buried.

Information minister Emma Theofelus announced the programme during a briefing at the Government Information Centre in Outapi, saying this year’s commemorations will be held under the theme ‘Built on Bravery, Bound for a Prosperous Future’.

She said the theme reflects Namibia’s journey from the sacrifices of its liberation heroes to the responsibility of present generations to continue building a peaceful and prosperous country.

“This year’s theme, ‘Built on Bravery, Bound for a Prosperous Future,’ reflects Namibia’s journey from the sacrifices of our liberation heroes to the shared responsibility of building a peaceful and prosperous nation,” Theofelus said.
