Chinatown vendors to trade under new conditions

Vendors operating at Chinatown in the northern industrial area have welcomed the City of Windhoek’s decision to allow them to continue trading, subject to a set of conditions.

The municipality’s decision follows a meeting held last Friday between Windhoek Mayor Sakarias Uunona, Chief Executive Officer Moses Matyayi and representatives of the vendors, after members of the City Police evicted the traders from their hawking sites along Newcastle Street.

Reinhold Lugambo, one of the vendors who has been trading at Chinatown since 2013, confirmed on Tuesday that the traders had received a letter from the municipality granting them permission to continue operating, provided they comply with the stipulated conditions.
