The latest deliveries, announced in the sixth public update yesterday, are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the national medicine supply chain following months of shortages that affected treatment for patients with chronic illnesses, cancer and other life-threatening conditions.

Executive director Penda Iithindi said the consignment, received between 16 and 31 July, consists of 46 medicine line items and 12 clinical supply line items, all of which have already been distributed through the Central Medical Stores to health facilities nationwide.

Iithindi said the latest deliveries form part of an emergency procurement programme designed to address immediate medicine shortages while simultaneously securing larger bulk orders to ensure long-term stock stability.
