THE City of Windhoek is exploring ways to improve public transport, traffic management and commuter safety after participating in an international transport summit in Moscow, with Mayor Sakarias Uunona highlighting several initiatives that could be adapted to the Namibian capital.

Uunona attended the International Transport Summit in Moscow last week, which brought together representatives from more than 40 cities to share experiences, challenges and approaches to urban transportation.
Reflecting on the summit, Uunona said Windhoek was not far behind Moscow in terms of transport initiatives, but could benefit from adapting some of the city’s infrastructure, technology and safety systems to local conditions.
One area he identified for consideration is passenger rail transport within Windhoek.
