Baller Boys Football Academy received a sponsorship of equipment worth N$10 000 from Reboost on Monday afternoon in Windhoek. The sponsorship includes a brand-new kit, mini markers, cones, poles, bibs, water bottles and footballs.

The academy currently competes in the MTC Hopsol Youth League, with teams in the U/13, U/15, U/17 and U/19 age groups.

Speaking at the sponsorship handover, Moses Haimbodi, a sales representative from Supra Sales (Reboost), said he realised the team played good football but lacked the necessary equipment. This prompted the company to provide the sponsorship as part of its efforts to give back to the community.

“This is just to give back to the boys and to let them know that as long as they keep pushing, something can come from it,” said Haimbodi

Benjamin Iiyambo, head coach of the U/19 team, said they were extremely happy, excited and grateful for the sponsorship.

“The sponsorship deal was worth N$10 000, and given the current financial dynamics in the country, I think one would have to be quite grateful to receive such a sponsorship. The sponsorship itself gives us a great sense of purpose. It gives us the will to continue pushing and helping this young generation, and to give them the confidence to believe that their dreams are possible,” said Iiyambo.

The academy prides itself on developing young talent, nurturing players and giving them the confidence to believe in themselves and their team.

Baller Boys also has an education programme, under which all its players have a commitment contract.

“We don’t only hold them accountable in the sporting department, but we also introduced a 60% average at school. The idea is that they have to get 60% to continue with the team, because a football career is quite short. A peak is typically around 35. Thereafter, you need to have a second dream, which is why we also take academics very seriously,” Iiyambo stressed.
