Catherine Kaunda belongs to Namibia – Family

To the Kaunda family, the late Catherine Kaunda is more than the eldest daughter of Zambia’s founding president, Kenneth Kaunda.

She is a woman who built friendships across cultures, remained true to her beliefs and found a second home in Namibia when her country of birth rejected them.

Family members residing in Namibia for over three decades, including Tilyenji Kaunda, Cathrine’s elder brother, said she will be remembered not only for carrying the Kaunda name but also for the way she lived her life – with honesty, compassion and an unwavering commitment to bringing people together.

“Our sister Catherine throughout her life said what she meant and meant what she said,” Tilyenji told New Era yesterday.

The family described her as someone who respected differing opinions and never allowed disagreements to divide people.

“She welcomed differing views and knew how to live with them. She always chose to move forward with a positive outlook. She had a rare ability to bring different kinds of people together and turn those connections into new friendships. We will miss her for that, and we will try never to forget the footprints she left behind,” said Tilyenji.
