Just as the closely connected mixed heritage community of Omaruru was coming to terms with the shock death of the town’s blue-eyed boy, retired midfielder Levy Haitjama Nakanene, famously known as ‘Jomo’ in social circles, the town woke up to the sad news about the sudden departure of the multi-gifted local icon Eliah Mberira. Elsewhere southwards, another former footballer has gone west, leaving residents of Aimablaagte, Mariental, in complete shock following the passing of one of the town’s most colourful figures, retired footballer Charles Hanse.

As has become customary practice, New Era Sport, as the designated mouthpiece of the masses, has a moral duty, more importantly, a humanitarian obligation to chronicle the unsaid history of our unheralded sport personalities, alive and posthumously.

Let us take you, our esteemed readers, down memory lane about the sporting journey of our departed heroes.
