Taiwan to deploy escort ships in simulated Chinese blockade

TAIPEI – Taiwan will deploy naval and coast guard ships to escort “critical supplies” during a simulation of a Chinese military blockade in waters east of the island, defence officials said yesterday.

The exercise will be part of Taiwan’s annual “Han Kuang” military drills, which start next week and aim to prepare the island’s troops and civilians for a potential Chinese attack.
