Man stabbed with a pen: cops investigate attempted murder

Staff Reporter A 37-YEAR-OLD Namibian man was found unconscious after he was allegedly stabbed in the neck with a pen during an altercation in the Harambee location, Otavi, on Saturday. The victim was transported to the Otavi Health Centre but was later transferred to the Otjiwarongo District Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical. According to the police, the attempted murder suspect fled the scene but was later traced and arrested. “The exact circumstances leading to the incident are still unknown,” police said. The police reported two other incidents of attempted murder over the weekend. A 36-year-old male resident of Karibib in the Erongo Region allegedly attempted to stab the owner of the Usab Night Club with a knife but was himself shot and injured in the left leg. He was rushed to a local health facility for treatment. The incident occurred on Saturday at around 23:40. It is alleged that the suspect was shot by the 33-year-old nightclub owner in apparent self-defence after attempting to attack him with a knife. In Lüderitz, the police are also investigating an attempted murder that occurred during the early hours of Friday, when a 27-year-old man was approached by a fellow bar patron requesting a cigarette. An argument broke out, and the suspect stabbed the victim twice in the chest before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to the Lüderitz District Hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition. The suspect has not yet been arrested.
