The Brandberg Backyard Ultra is back

The rugged landscapes of Damaraland will once again provide the backdrop for one of Namibia’s most demanding endurance events on Saturday as runners gather at Brandberg Rest Camp near Uis for the fifth RMB Brandberg Backyard Ultra.

Presented in partnership with RMB Namibia, the event has grown into a highlight on the endurance sports calendar, attracting elite athletes, weekend warriors and outdoor enthusiasts from across the region.

Unlike traditional races, the Backyard Ultra has no fixed finish line. Athletes must complete a 6.706 km loop every hour, on the hour, for as long as they can. The challenge continues until only one runner remains capable of completing the loop within the allotted hour.

All eyes will once again be on André Ross, who has dominated the event since its inception. Ross has won all four previous editions and holds the course record of 22 laps, covering an astonishing 147.5 km. Having represented Namibia at the 2024 Backyard Ultra World Team Championship, he returns as the man to beat.
