Members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), in cooperation with the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), last weekend confiscated cannabis with a total weight of 91.596 kg and an estimated street value of N$1 066 040 at the Ariamsvlei Border Post.
NamPol’s //Kharas regional crime investigation coordinator Nicodemus Mbango said it is alleged that a white truck bearing registration number CY 83649 arrived at the Ariamsvlei Border Post from the South African side (Nakop Border Post), entering Namibia early last weekend.
“During routine border control operations, the truck was subjected to scanning by NamRA enforcement officials, in cooperation with members of the Namibian Police Force stationed at Ariamsvlei, whereupon suspicious items were detected concealed in the truck,” the police report read.

It further stated that a subsequent inspection was conducted which resulted in the discovery of three large jumbo bags containing 300 parcels of cannabis (marijuana) as well as one medium-sized box containing seven vacuums packed in a transparent plastic parcel of suspected cannabis (skunk).
A Zimbabwean male suspect was then arrested on the scene while police investigations continue.
Previous police reports indicated that border authorities late last year recovered 60.55 kg of cannabis and 4 073 Mandrax tablets hidden under a bridge at the same border post.
The contraband had an estimated combined street value exceeding N$3.5 million.
