OGONGO – The University of Namibia (Unam) Ogongo Campus began its annual rice harvest and expects to produce about 23 tonnes from 7.5 hectares of land.
Located in the Omusati region, the campus offers various agricultural programmes that benefit students from across the country. Community members, traditional leaders, students and lecturers gathered at the campus to witness the annual harvest.
Unam vice-chancellor Professor Kenneth Matengu said the university remains committed to ensuring that research translates into practical solutions for society.
“Through our valued partnerships with the government of Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Debmarine Namibia and other stakeholders, Ogongo Campus continues to serve as a centre of excellence, where innovation, technology transfer and community engagement empower smallholder farmers across Namibia’s rice value chain, from production through to marketing,” he said.
