A SENIOR Zambian immigration officer has been detained after allegedly attempting to facilitate the irregular exit of a man through the Victoria Falls Border Control in Livingstone, Zambia, in the early hours of Monday.
The Department of Immigration confirmed that Senior Immigration Officer Masheke Masheke, who is based at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport, was allegedly involved in the incident involving Jonas Zimba.
According to the department, preliminary investigations indicate that Masheke attempted to irregularly facilitate Zimba’s exit from Zambia.
The attempt was reportedly detected by Immigration and Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) officers who were on duty at the border control.
When officers approached them, Zimba allegedly fled towards Livingstone.
Masheke has since been detained at Livingstone Central Police Station to assist with investigations.
The Department of Immigration said serious investigations into the matter are ongoing and that appropriate action will be taken once the investigations have been concluded.
